Just bought myself an 04 automatic a few months ago. Ever once in a while when driving I can hear strange whining noise that gets louder as the rpms go up. I had a friend in the car and he made a joke that I just should hit the dash and it would turn off and it actually ended up working, but the noise would come back in a few minutes. Any ideas of what this could be? Also my engine has low compression. About 50k on engine and 140k on the car.

sounds like alternator wine to me, normally goes up as the RPM goes up. i would test that first. that wining noise comes through the radio correct? like a high pitched wine through your car speakers?
