Blocking air flow

I am curious could anyone explain the logic on the recommendation to block air flow around radiator. On the you got an rx8 sticky. I am not the smartest and do not und r rstand. Blocking gaps around the radiator does not change the surface area so I am trying to understand how this helps before undertaking this step.

You need to seal the gaps around the fans and rad. It helps with drawing more air through the rad rather than from the sides / top /bottom of the fan shroud.

Would you rather pour water into a cup using a water jug or a snow shovel?

As williard said, basically the goal here is to give the air no place to go (or less places to go) aside from through the radiator. By sealing the areas around the radiator , it funnels the air through the radiator, thereby decreasing temperature by more effective usage of air passing through the front of the vehicle.

Air will take the path of least resistance, so if you have gaps around your radiator, some of the air flow will divert around the radiator rather than being forced through it.
