That oem orange Rear Main Seal looks 1668-10-556A which is not a Renny, last used back in 1995.
All OEM 8's RMS are black, changed for Synthetic Oil Use amongst other things.
Unless Mazda Reman in US are using technically wrong parts, or skimping on reman costs by using or recycling 'passable' old parts from other warranty remans, who would have thought!.
OK, well they (in US) must be using the 1668-10-556A in remans, as Mazda Dealers there sell both which can fit and are actually a excellent seal and costs more there than EPC listed Seal for RX-8,
from Mazda EPC they are used right from 1969 10A to 1995 RX-7 13B REW, I literally sold hundreds of them.
The RX-8 ones N3H1-10-508 I have here are slightly thinner and all black and specific by part number for the Renny and is genuine oem and not meant for any other RE and they look cheaper and lighter (and are).
I assumed this is actually 'a' Mazda reman unit from their NA reman plant in this pic?
Mazda NA Remans 'were' replacing front and rear stationary gears with brand new ones, if this engine is only 1500 miles old then clearly they are no longer renewing SG which are an assembly with new bearings and new Renny black rear main included as one assembled piece (from MMC Japan Parts), rear SG assembles (4 pieces, inc bolt) are Renny specific.
The SG in this 1500 mile engine is not brand new.
More than likely what they are doing to save money is reused the old SG and press in new bearings (if needed) and renew the rear main seal (orange, technically incorrect but will work), which is what they should have been doing from the start, but Mazda did not trust staff to even press in new bearings, they were even putting in brand new Rotors in every engine if needed or not.(see Sleepy old posts as worker at reman plant)
With S1 8 year engine warranty finishing in less than 2 years, all they (Mazda NA) need to do is make the engine last for more than a few years now, by cutting costs and saving $$'s.
probably nothing to do with bearing, something in The engine fail while it was spinning, the piece is large enough and cause the engine to just "stop spinning" in a spit second ?

I seen both seals, first I wondered why they changed it cuz it looks exactly the same (except color, no im not color blind )
now I wonder if I can use it in earlier 13b, forgot to take measurements last time I had both on hand
