Key and Transmitter Question

Just bought this 04 RX-8 base model and it came with a standard chipped Mazda key. I have a transponder and key from my 05 RX-8 that I sold a few years back and I was wondering if I could get a replacement key insert for the 04 and install it in the transponder and reprogram the transponder for use with my current 04? Would be nice to have keyless entry!

Key I have for the 04:

Transponder that I would like to use:

I'm pretty sure the FCC numbers have to match.
I have an '04 also and replaced my original keyfob with a switchblade and I seem to remember only one series of numbers will work on the '04.
I can't remember the thread, had a lot of info in it, something like "keyless entry not working", or something like that.

I'll have to look for the thread. I figure worst case I'll get ahold of the dealer and buy a new fob and key.

You can get the right switchblade from Remote Superstore for $80.
Probably cheaper than the dealer.
That thread I referenced has the correct info you need.

I switched my 04 to a switchblade way back in the day. I'll track down the thread as it was one of those repetitive everyone asking the same question over and over again ones.

Hardware store can cut the blank (even when they say they can't -- ignore them and tell them to do it anyway) and so long as you have at least two other keys (valet works too) you can program the blank in your driveway.

The FOB programming is just as as simple.

Went to the dealer today and bought a new key. The dealer installed the key in the key fob form my 04 and programmed the key an fob for my 04 RX-8. I'm happy to to have the key fob and the retractable key. Makes life a little more convenient for me.
