Hello everybody ! Im new in this forum and please excuse me if this topic is not for this section (and for my bad en, im from Bulgaria). So from a few days im a proud owner of Mazda Rx-8 231 hp, and already thinking about some power mods. First i remove catalytic converter and mid pipe (or resonator pipe not shure its after the cat) I swapped them with a straight pipe. Next i will remove the catback again with straight pipe so all generation will be straight. After this im thinking for fuel pressure regulator to raise the fuel pressure but with how manny ? Does anyone know how much pressure is stock ? i accept any ideas for budget mods, thank u all

Read this before you do anything. Your assumptions are wrong.

Increasing the fuel pressure doesn't achieve anything, our power is intakae and exhaust flow restricted at the engine, not fuel restricted

What he said. Share a little more like the year and miles. I am guessing a series 1 here. There is a thread in my signature (Congrats you got an 8) with several mods that will make life easier on you and, along the way, may give you back some of the power lost over the years. I recommend these first (rather inexpensive) then move to ignition. Then the CAT can go.

You might want to reconsider unless you want to wear earplugs or lose your hearing. You cannot imagine how loud it will be inside the car without a cat or mufflers. I bought mine with a cat but no mufflers - insane and painful.

The long and short of it is, there are no budget power adders. There are budget things you can and should do for reliability, which are well described in the thread mentioned above and other tech stickies. But even if you do all bolt-on type mods for intake and exhaust you net out marginal real-world gains. This is not like a Civic where compromises were made in production, Mazda went to a lot of trouble to get the most out of the Renesis from the factory.

 

Thank u all for the comments, little update on the thread, all mufs and cats and etc's are removed, there is only straight pipe, the sound is awesome, the red line from 9500 top now is near 9800, soon will be post a video clip.

 

i dont think the exhaust has anything to do with rev limiter. that needs to be changed via the ecu. cobb, mazda edit etc

I'm sure it's faster to get to the redline with a straight pipe, but the redline hasn't moved.
