What's up everyone...
Loved the RX-8's since I was a senior in high school, and my buddies mom bought a brand new red '04.
Yesterday, I was browsing cars.com, and noticed a brand new listing for a 2007 Stormy Blue RX-8. 6-sp. manual transmission, and only 35k miles. Yeah. Sold. Called the dealership and talked to the internet sales manager, had her text me some photos, and told her I'd be down there the next day. Only issue I had was the 250 mi. drive to look at/test drive and buy it.
Went down, test drove, everything was gorgeous and in order, so I went ahead and took the plunge for $9,995 (plus dealer fees, tax, tag and title).
My only question for you guys: The dealership wasn't able to do a compression test, and since I live 250 miles away, I couldn't exactly bring it to my guy to have it done. But with only 35k miles on it, how much of a necessity is it to get that done? For what its worth, the car drove amazingly. Clean Carfax, one previous owner that obviously babied it.
Anyhow, info about the compression test and how absolutely necessary it is would be appreciated.

100% needed if you want to know the true health of your motor. As well as a coolant pressure test.
Run it for about a half hour or so and turn it off. Restart it hot. if it takes more than 3 seconds something's off.
No one here will suggest purchasing one without a compression test.
Read through the new and potential owners thread in the new member forum.

Is there an option to return it, or some sort of extended power train warranty that the dealer offered you incase it is failing?
If you're INCREDIBLY lucky, the original sale date of your car may not have passed 8 years yet, and you may be able to get a new engine for free.
Get to a Mazda dealership ASAP and get a compression test, you will hopefully still be under the 8 year/100k warranty that will get your (possibly failing) engine replaced with an unused re-manufactured one.

Do get the test asap, but don't lose too much sleep over it. Just buying a manual puts you at a much lower risk. I think 2007 is also past the ECU reflash releases, so the car should have avoided that problem as well.
Welcome to the Forum..congrats on the awesome buy, hope its in great shape and form.
Get the test done as advised above for your peace of mind.
Also inquire with your dealer about the warranty, how many claims are you allowed and what's the cap on each claim.
All the best
