plz help, i got my clutch replace a month ago, on the way home tonight, it just dies - pedal gets stuck on the floor, cant shift gears. i pull over and manually pull the clutch up with my hand. i cant put the car into hear, it turns on fine. need help becuz im really worry if its the transmission or just bad install from the guy last month. i have a gen 1, 2007. thx, looking forward to reply while i wait for triple a...

 

This sounds like a hydraulic ( master or slave) or clutch bracket failure...

The pedal issue would not have anything to do with the clutch replacement. Search "broken clutch pedal" here.

 

Ok so I took it to the same shop this morning. One look at it and he tells me it's most likely the Hydraulic system that needs to be replaced and unrelated to the new clutch installation he did a month ago. He saids hydraulic systems aren't easy to spot and maintain; they break when they break and quoted me $350 to fix/replace it. Can someone let me know if this is legit or am I getting riped off a 2nd time now?

Meh, hydraulic system is pretty vague, does he mean the clutch master or the clutch slave, or both? Did you check the clutch pedal for side to side movement?

 

If that is replacing both the master and slave cylinders, then it's a good price. A bit high if it's just one, and robbery if it's just bleeding something.

It still doesn't sound like anyone has actually inspected your clutch pedal properly...

I just called him, it is both master and slave cylinder. I already paid $1100 for my new clutch replacement last month. With another $350 now, what is everyone's thoughts? thanks guys for all the feedback, it's really helpful

Sounds like bullshit and you need a new mechanic. I can't see how both would fail at the same time. Both the clutch slave and clutch master very rarely fail on these cars.

 

I agree..it is highly unlikely that both have failed at the same time. They are super simple components that get very little use or stress

Problem is....without knowing how to do it yourself you are kinda stuck

 

i live in LA, he's the closest 2nd party mazda specialist in my area. I either can bring it to the dealership or tow my car to another guy thats more than 30 miles away from my house.

I'll ask for him to double check the pedal/bracket but is everyone stating that the car will break down again if the pedal isn't looked at properly? I'm really don't want to call another tow truck in the middle of the night next month.....

 

It doesn't need to be a mazda specialist, just an honest qualified mechanic.

You are overthinking the problem.

It takes 5 seconds to properly inspect the clutch pedal assembly, and anyone can do it as long as they know what they are looking for.

The pedal shouldn't have any broken welds, and shouldn't have any side to side movement possible at any point in the movement range.

Thanks guys! I appreciate everyone's help. Yes, I want to take my car to Neptune but it is really far from where I am. I take it to Haines Auto in Alhambra and he has decent reviews on Yelp. He services a few rotaries so I thought he might be a good alternative to the dealer. I picked up my car today and asked him if it could also be the pedal assembly. he said that was the first thing he checked for...although he only did a visual inspection with his flashlight. anyways, im driving my car now and the clutch feels a little heavier than before..i'm not sure if its all in my head. i have a 75K service coming up so maybe I'll have Neptune take a look at their work when I get that service done. all in all - thanks everyone for the help! love my car and love the members on this forum!

 

So he replaced the clutch master and slave and its all fixed?

 

going to the floor and sticking there is air in the hydraulic system i.e. either needs to be bled, or has a hydraulic leak, or a bad master and/or slave cylinder.

 

Yes, it is fixed. Been driving on it for the past day.
