Has anyone tracked with HP+ before?
Was at Sebring this weekend, I had ET500 on the car and after the 2nd session, my pads were pretty much toasted. (and I haven't been doing hard braking at all)
My instructor had an RX8 before and he said HP+ would hold better on a track. I'm not sure if I want to deal with the dust and noise for daily driving, since i think ET500 is a good compromise.
If i didn't want dedicated track pads, what would be better options?

 

I use HP+ on track and they do fine on traack when they are warm, but they squeal to much on the street IMO. I originally got them as a dual purpose pad since my car isn't a dd, but I couldn't deal with the squealing and got a second set of pads/discs for street use.

Anything dual purpose is going to be a compromise either on track, on street, or both.

get a second set of track pads and change them out before a track event! HP+'s will work great on track until you get up to R-comps

If you're willing to try HP+, try Carbotech XP10. You may hate it less. It kind of comes down to that with brake pads: which thing do you hate less?
a) dust and noise
b) fade and glazing at the track
c) taking 45 minutes to swap brake pads before and after an event

You can choose 2 of those to not have to deal with, but not 3. Seriously, if you're changing tires for the track, change your brake pads, it's 5 minutes extra per side. Try a full track pad like DTC60 just once. You won't go back to compromise pads.

 

I'll be tracking my RX8 at Auto Club Speedway ROVAL in a couple weeks and if im not too lazy I'll have my EBC RedStuff installed by then. I'll let you know how they do on that track. It is a high speed track and it's going to be almost 100f outside.

get Yellow Stuff and call it a day. It might chew your rotors more than oem but you can get new front rotors for under a $100.

 

I'm on my second set of hp+ pads front and rear with ate type 200 fluid and dunlop direzza zii's

it seems to hold up pretty well, although I've heard that if you're on more aggressive tires they're insufficient.

They dust a lot, but you're going to get that with any track-worthy pad. They do make a bit of noise as well, but not always and not enough for me to be annoyed by it. Getting the pad bedded in helps with this as well. When they start to squeal more than you can stand, bed them in again.

 

I've used portefield R4 brake pads in the past. They dust quite a bit and are a little noisy but they work pretty good for the track. I wouldnt use them as a DD pad though.

 

They are a bad track pad and poor daily driving pad....so much better choices out there.
They overheat fast when you beat on them and dont get hot on the street and eat rotors

 

Ive been using the HP+ for quite awhile now, I daily my car and probably put up 2-3 track events a year and 3-5 autox....havent had a problem, no fade under extreme heat and no squealing as of yet, quite dusty though....actually im surprised they have lasted as long as they have, perhaps im just not pushing hard enough =)

 

I don't know how people say these are bad pads that constantly overheat, that hasn't been my experience at all.

I'm an intermediate hpde student on street tires, and I'm sure if I was a better driver on r-comps, I'd need something more serious. But, at my current skill level they're perfectly fine. They're slightly compromised for street use, and certainly not perfect, but for the average hpde student I certainly wouldn't call them "bad"

 

HP+ is 20+ year old technology; excessively grabby, hard to modulate, etc. not that some people would know the difference ...
