So I just realized when I was changing my oil why my AC wasn't working last summer. I have only one belt on my engine which is the alternator belt. The other one is missing! There are 2 on the rx8, I was looking at some pictures of other engines. I rarely use my AC since it's cold as hell up here. I tried turning it on I heard a click but cold air never came through.


Sorry for being a newbie but it never crossed my mind to check if a belt snapped. So I have been driving like this for over a year now. Is it possible I damaged anything along the way of not noticing? What other components run on that belt besides the AC compressor? Air pump? or is it just the AC?

I don't think so. The previous owner probably took it off thinking it would gain some horse power. Buy the right serpentine belt and put it on; if you still have freon charged in the system, the A/C clutch should cycle once you turn the A/C ON.

 

I was in the same boat. For the longest time I drove without an AC belt but I never turned the AC on. I highly doubt any damage would've been done.

 

it doesn't damage anything, the belt really just turns the AC on and that's it.
