RX8 231 - Engine Advice Req?

Hi Guys,

This week I purchased a 2004 RX8 231 6SPD that wouldn't run (Ha Ha I was abit tipsy when making the decision!)

Anyways I've got her running after DE flooding the engine which was relative easy took just 10mins And I used a battery from a fiesta! So I need a battery for it.

The advice im needing is the following...

When I got her running the DSC OFF light was flashing the radio volume was gone (Fuse 20a in passenger foot well was blown! and engine management light was lit up!

My Engine Management light - Refers to BANK 1 Lean is this just due to the recovery of the flood? I've cleared the CODE and it hasn't returned but my Hot Start is 8 Seconds?

Thanks

Craig

If your hot start times are significantly longer than cold start times, you may be looking at compression loss. Hot starts are a classic sign. Prepare for engine replacement/rebuild.

Very Possible and if that's what it requires this is what will happen im in this for the long haul however... The BANK 1 Lean is sort of a concern id like to eliminate this cars done 88k so id be surprised if it hasn't already had some engine work given the prone problems that RX8 Suffer from.

Sadly I don't know what caused the flood as the cars a finance repo and came to the company already flooded so whether or not BANK 1 Fault was the cause or is just a direct issue after flood im unsure of.

There isn't enough information from you yet to give much more than a huge list of possibilities. For example "bank 1" doesn't tell us anything, since there isn't another bank. Bank 1 sensor 1 is the front O2, bank 1 sensor 2 is the rear O2. The actual code number itself would be more useful, since usually an inaccurate label is applied by 3rd party code readers. Here is a list of codes that reference 'lean', and you can see that none of them really fit the label you provided:
P0171 - System too lean
P2096 - Target A/F feedback system too lean
P2195 - Front HO2S signal stuck lean
P2270 - Rear HO2S signal stuck lean

Lots of reference material and tips here: https://www.rx8club.com/new-member-f...t-here-202454/

I wouldn't worry about the hot start time yet, until you have a proper battery in there. You will need to compare the hot vs cold start times, but having a weak battery is one reason for flooding and a long start time, and you already admitted to not having a proper battery. So resolve that first.

Then on to ignition health, starter health, and compression health.
