UK Do I buy another RX8?!

Hi all,

A little advice. I bought my 2005 RX8 192 a couple of years ago. I had done a little research and I've ended up with a decent car, however of course since then I've learnt a fair bit more (mainly from this forum!)

My engine has low compression but starts and runs fine, now with a new starter. I'm in a position now where I need a new clutch, discs and pads on the rear, and potentially an engine rebuild in the future. Also although I wasn't bothered at the time I'm hankering after xenon lights which I would have got if I'd gone for the 231.

With the prices on these cars so low now I'm a little tempted to get another and keep the one I have for spares. I'm just after some opinions really. If I get a 2006 onwards I'd be lumbered with the higher tax of course, so I thinking really of a 231 2005. I see one on Autotrader right now with 77k and compression tested for £2k.

Any thoughts would be appreciated,
thanks guys!

It's really up to you, unless you want other people's opinion, and i guess you do, but anyway, just make sure the compression is strong...good luck!

It doesn't sound bad, owning another RX-8 because as you said, the prices on these cars are so low. I've seen one 2006 RX-8 which is in mint condition and for sale at about $15k. The car prices in my country is higher than almost all countries, and the prices for 2006 rx-8's begin from $20k, so $15k is quite decent. If my current RX-8 had any troubling flaws I might consider buying it really.

Everyone's situation is different, so there's really no way to give advice imo.
I've had mine for a year and a half and I love it, but I think once this one goes downhill, I won't want to keep sinking money into it.
If I was younger, yes. I used to love to work on my cars, but it's getting harder as I get older.
The prices coming down and the uniqueness of the 8 would keep me interested in it otherwise.

Here in Canada it's possible to get a truly mint low mileage 2006/2007 for under $12k.
