QC Part of the 10 most probable futur collector cars

I intend to keep it for long, I mean it is not for sale, as this car has been identified as part of the 10 most probable futur collector cars.

The selection was done last year in November 2012 by a group formed of a well known Canadian race car driver, ''Jacques Duval'' who actually works as a journalist for the Montreal newspaper ''LaPresse'', and who also writes annually a Car Guide as '' Guide de l'Auto'', the Vintage Automobiles of Quebec and the very well known insurance company for collector cars only: the Hagerty Society.
The reason is simple, it's the only car with a rotary engine and for that reason it deserves this particular mention to be part of the history of the automobile.

Sorry it is in french but here is the link, just scroll down and you will see the RX-8.

I bought my RX-8 new in September, 2004, so I've had it a bit over 9 years now. I'll admit that I occasionally have some fantasy about owning some other type sporty car, but as my 8 ages I tend to look at it as a relatively rare and unique automobile.

Due to a shoulder injury from which I am still recovering, I've been taking my 8 to a local car wash. I decided to splurge a bit and have the deluxe service which includes a wax job. I've always taken pretty good care of my 8, but it looks real good right now. And it only has one very minor door ding - you'd have to look hard to find it.

So with not quite 30,000 miles on the clock, I think I'll keep it for a long, long time to come.

7 years. Maybe it is just me but I do not see the RX8 becoming a collectors car.

Its the first Rotary I was able to buy new - so I plan to hang onto it.

Nice to see so many new owners too!

Difficult to predict, but you might be right. One thing though: I've only seen 4 or 5 RX-8's around our little town of 45,000, and all but one are in pretty poor condition. One is really trashed and missing some bumpers and body parts. I hope this is not indicative of the national fleet, but if it is, a clean one like mine just might make the collectors list someday (not that I plan to sell).

I'm still a month shy of a full year of ownership.

I plan on keeping it as long as possible. My next car or two will be in addition to the RX8, not replacements.

There are 3 or 4 8s in my neighborhood. Most the 8s I see around town are kept up as well which is nice to see. I'm sure that will change now that the price of the 04s and 05s are so cheap. People ask me all the time how old my car is and they all seemed surprised when I say it is a 2004.

I've had my 8 for just shy of a year now. I have no intention of getting rid of it. It's my hobby car.

I have had mine for about 7 months now. It's been in storage for the winter for about two weeks now and I already miss it a lot.

I doubt i will keep it for very long however. Maybe 5 years max. My ultimate goal is still an NSX

8 years this month(Dec).
Original engine, have about 45k on the clock.
No real issues to speak of....a few minor ones, but that's it.

As of today, 43% have confessed to owning an RX-8 for 7 years or more. I'm impressed. And encouraged

8 years and 4 days of ownership for me. On engine 2 since 37k miles and I'm at 42k now I think. It's like a giant hot wheel for me that sits in the garage. Eventually people will be impressed by it

It could be that they're so undesirable that they're impossible to unload, hence we're stuck forever.

Just kidding. I'm keeping mine because I love it and can't think of anything else I can afford that I'd want. I don't see too many, but the ones I see are always in very nice condition.

I can't see the RX-8 becoming a collector car, the kind that Road & Track would feature as a Sports Car Classic. When people notice mine, the reaction is "Cool - what is it?" rather than "Cool - so you have one of those!"

Ken

5 years and 32 days. It is an 04 and I am the second owner. Bought it with 42,000 miles and I have put another 44,000 miles on it.

Bought my 2005 new in March, 2006. Almost 126,000 miles later original engine (and amazingly the clutch given both my wife and daughter have driven it some) are still going strong.

My apologies to skc. I regret not adding the 10 year vote option. I failed to consider that an '04 model could be purchased in '03. You're the man!

Had it since I was 15. Parents got it for me from a Lexus dealership. It has been in California and Alabama. Apparently the 2nd owner in Cali sold it there and it was shipped to where I got it from(Lexus of Huntsville AL). First and only car I've had. Driven many miles in it and took out alot of frustration in it. Great car and I hope to have it as my garage king when I get older.
