Shifter movement with stock mounts - video
Hey,
Thought I'd share this video as it shows just how much the shifter walks around during maneuvers when using stock (but good condition) motor mounts. Go to about 1:05 to start.
I've been swapping back and forth between stock and aftermarket poly mounts because I really need my transmission to stay put at the track, but I really don't like the noise and vibration of poly mounts the rest of the time, so trying to work out a middle ground.

The only thing you could do to get a middle ground is to drain the stock mounts of their oil, and use a fluid that has a higher viscosity. Now how you would manage to do that while keeping the structural integrity intact is something that would need to be thought out.
I think that's actually a better solution that poly mounts. Poly doesn't really dampen anything, whereas a fluid mount does. All I really want to is to limit lateral motion, whereas I would venture to guess that most of the vibration is in the vertical axis of the mount.
Feels like you could design a mount that's laterally rigid but dampens vertical movement.
