i think my transmission went out

i recently had my clutches changed in my 04 rx8 and after it just felt and sounded different sence ive had them changed. then all of a sudden when i would try to accelerate quickly it would just rev up until i let off the gas petal then if i pressed the gas slowly it would accelerate like normal. this is the first rx8 ive owned so i only know little about them so any help would be appreciated. now the car dosent go at all .i can crank it up and slide it straight into any gear and it onle slightly revs up a little but does nothing else nor does it move if possible id love to figure out whats going on and if i can fix the problem myself . this forum has helped me fix my car numerous times and everyones so helpfull and i thank everyone for their help it is greatly appreciated sincerly daniel

A) something is holding the pressure place off the clutch (highly improbable)
B) Grease or oil is coating the clutch, preventing friction to grab
C) your clutch is already melted through and need a new one again

My transmission light is on and it was making really weird sounds down there do you think it might be the transmission?

Transmission light?

Only Automatics have a transmission light, and automatics don't have a clutch. I'm confused.

Auto's have clutches internal to the transmission.
If your still within the warranty period of the transmission, take it back and have them check it out.

Hmm, true.

Daniel, are you saying you had your automatic transmission rebuilt? If so, then you need to take it back to the place that rebuilt it.

I guess a torque converter with no fluid in it would have that symptom, but it could be other things. Not knowledgeable about automatics.

No I'm far beyond my warranty but yes they have a transmission light on and I don't know if the manual transmissions are supposed to have these lights are not I just know that mine is on and I have a6 speed but like I said when I turn the car on and it's running I can put it in every gear and it will not do anything but barely rev up a little when the car stopped working all I could smell was a weird smell but it did not smell like when my clutchs went out

How many pedals do you have that you can move with your feet? 2 or 3?

In the first post you say you have an 04 RX8. The 6 speed auto didn't arrive until the 06 model year.

Ok. So, you only have 1 clutch, not clutches (plural), and my answer just goes back to my first response.

Okay so you still think it has something to do with the clutch? The transmission would be out of the question? I am just not experience in that field my step dad change the clutch so I'm wondering if he might have done something wrong or maybe I purchased a bad clutch?

Your clutch is not fully engaging. It seems when you take it easy, it's fine. But, if you try to put too much power to it, it begins to slip.

There are many things that can cause this. It's difficult to narrow it down with out being at the car. Also, it seems you aren't experienced in auto repair by the way you describe things.

It could be that the master/slave cylinder need bleeding or need replacing. (Start Here)
The clutch peddle assembly is a known problem in this car and the spot welds break. To find out, you have to pull it out. A new one would have to be ordered and installed or the old one would have to be welded to be repaired.
It could be a problem with the way the clutch was installed.

A broken clutch pedal or the hydraulics needing to be bled would cause the clutch to not disengage, not for it to slip.

Daniel - is your stepdad available to take a look? Since he had the skill to change the clutch, he should know enough to figure out what's wrong. Has to be one of the items in RIWWP's first reply. "A" is possible if the free play is adjusted wrong...but I don't know if that kind of misadjustment is possible on an 8. From your last post it sounds like you're now at "C".

Ken

No he is not available to look at it but I did call the Mazda dealership and they said from the description that I gave them it sounds like a broken clutch pedal so I am going to tow the car over there and have them look at it Monday I just hope it does not cost an arm and a leg to fix that and thank God if it is that and nothing major
