how much should i sell a 04 w/bad engine

well after all the parts i replaced/cleaned my rx8 took a crap on me. i only got to enjoy it for a week. the rest of the time it was slowly dying. im trying to recoup as much of my money as possibly. obviously lol. looking for advice or even a potential interested buyer.

heres the info
04 rx8 sport package 6speed grey/dark silver.
135k showing i believe. no more then 138k
leather,bose, yada yada lol.

ive got about 6k in it after installing new plugs, coils, wires, battery and starter.
id like to get around 4k. is that reasonable? the motor is still in the car. im looking for a engine to replace the blown one. i dont want to put another 2k-2500 in it to turn around and sell it. im fully capable if thats the only way to get my money back. Im willing to lose 2k for my poor choice. i need this car gone. any advice/interest? im aware this isnt a f/s thread but i figured id throw it out there. IM not willing to part it out so please dont ask. thanks in advanced

I WILL NOT PART IT OUT!

4k is very high in my opinion for an 8 with a blown engine

yeah i figured. its in good condition other then the engine. i thought the new parts would help the price. as for my post count id love to have been here longer before my engine took a dump.. trust me.i bought this 8 when a guy ran a red light and tboned me in my mazda 6. since the engine went i needed a new dd so i bought another 6. can you shed some light on how much a reman from mazda is? i saw a post saying 2k. i cant find a decent low milage used engine for that.

4 seems high. You'd be lucky to get 2 with the engine bad. However with a fresh reman, you should be able to get 6. Either way you loose in the end.

Lol try atleast 8 with a new/reman engine. It would take a moron to sell a car for that with a new engine with a warranty. I buy and sell cars all the time. It's my side business on top of my 60hr a week job. I've never dealt with rx8s and that's the only reason I posted here. Either way, thanks for your input

True but the problem you face is that the majority of potential rx8 buyers do not know the value of all the parts you have put into your car.

If you did the reman engine, with all the replacement parts you already have, It would be a great buy at 8. But only if you plan on waiting for the one guy that has done his research and knows what to properly look for.

Most people are just looking for a cheap price though. And there are 2004 rx8s out there selling for $4-$6 all day. There a new member here every week or so that buys a tired 8 because they didn't research and just went for a cheap price.

I wish you luck and I don't doubt you can sell it for 8 if its in really great condition. Just expect to sit on it for a while.

Why not get a new engine, why not keep it?
With a new engine you may change your mind. You obviously wanted an 8.
IMHO, it really is a great car, you just caught a bad break.
