Engine Replacement Mods

Just got back from the dealer. Low compression on every rotor face (low 5's) across the board. Don't have the paperwork infront of me, but they already ordered the motor. 2006 Shinka, 30K miles on it

They suspect my coils are failing because they had 24 misfires during diagnosis, and have agreed to tack on any labor charges for mods I want to install during the replacement to the warranty.

Therefore, I am taking suggestions for what I should take care of at this time.

Planning on light weight flywheel (maybe clutch but again, only 30k on it), motor mounts, wires and coils (maybe, I also have the extended warranty from the previous owner, and I think those are covered), redline trans fluid, redline diff fluid, and high flow cat.

Any other suggestions I should consider while the motor is out?

It probably doesn't matter at this point, but misfires are impossible during a compression test if they are doing it right.

Why? Misfires require spark to be attempted, and is only detected by not igniting fuel when it should have. And since spark and fuel have to be disabled for a proper compression test, misfires are impossible. I'm suspicious of why they told you that.

Looks like you got the list covered to me. The water pump used to be on the list, to upgrade, but the remans from Mazda have water pumps that are upgraded over the early S1 factory water pumps, so it's a non-issue any more.

I thought that myself, but my understanding is that they do multiple TSB's when you bring it in for diagnostics. I don't think the misfires were tested during compression check, but as a secondary test to check for problems.

Apparently this dealership does the most engine replacements in the country, and from my experiences...are very willing to work with you to get things done under warranty/no charge to the customer.

I will go back once my engine is in to get a copy of all the paperwork they have on hand to see everything they did.
