leak near cat

as the title says, there appears to be a small leak near my catalytic converter. it appears to be oil, unless there is another brownish liquid that goes through my exhaust that im not aware of.

it is a very small leak, it only leaves a puddle maybe 4 inches wide but id like to nip this in the bud if possible. i have not gotten the chance to get under it and take pictures but was wondering if this has occurred to anyone else or if it is a common issue.

i was unable to find any info dealing with oil leaking from the cat using the search feature, thanks in advance for the insight.

The CAT has nothing to leak except exhaust fumes provided it is not sealed properly or has a hole of some sort. Do you have an automatic or manual? If its an automatic it could be transmission fluid. If not the only other fluids that come to mind are oil and coolant. You need to get into the motor bay and underneath and pin point the source and fix it.

its a manual, the residue is a brownish color on my finger. ill take a more in depth look once i get home. the sealant/hole theory you mentioned is what i suspect is happening too. there is no diminished performance or anything like that so i feel it has to be something minor.
