Supercharged and Street tires = SSM Solo class?

Alittle help for a Noob. I have done plenty of track days, but have decided to do a few solo days during the summer, but am not sure of the class since this would be my first time.

Basic bolt-ons, SC, and RE-11's

SSM seemed to be my fit, but wanted to make sure.

Yep, sounds like SM. Your region might offer a "modified Street Tire" class or a "Novice" class as well.

And Chris is right: just go have fun. Your biggest improvements will come from your driving, not from the car. Ask a lot of questions; autoXers are generally a pretty friendly and helpful bunch. Fnd a fast guy to ride along with you or take a few runs in your car (if an instructor is driving, those runs will generally not count towards your runs for the day). Seeing what someone fast can do in your car is usually an eye-opener.

The SSM stands for Super Street Modified. Should be fun.

^Yes...But the RX8 is a 4 seater so it cannot be classed in SSM. SSM is for 2 seater cars..rx7, lotus, miata, corvette...etc.

You fail

Per Appendix A all SM vehicles qualify for SSM as long as they meet the minimum SSM weight requirement listed therein

This is exactly why I posted orginally. I asked a fellow driver who drives SM and said I couldn't be classed SSM, but when I read the manual I understood it differently. When I arrive for tech it should be a good argument.

I changed my registration to Pro-Class SM, but will dispute when I arrive there.

Your car will go into SSM only if it's too light for SM, which I doubt is the case.

Pro class? In my region, that was where the best, most experienced guys ran.

Sorta. He can run SSM as long as he meets the minimum weight regardless of whether or not he meets the minimum weight in SM too.

Regionally it depends on who shows up, but at the national level SSM is a decent bit faster than SM. That means that the SSM index is harder than SM, so if you're running locally in an indexed tire class (which seems likely), you want to register with your pax class as SM.

Either way, try not to show up for the event looking for an argument. Just put the car in either class and have fun.

I was looking over the drivers list and it looks like in the Atlanta Region both groups SM & SSM / Pro-Class have great drivers and cars that I've bumped into over the years, so either choice is fine. I chose the Pro-Class to drive against them and see how I compare since we are all close matched on the track.

AR has a very tough Pro class and you will be buried on index running street tires on an SM PAX. You are welcome but I suspect you would get more satisfaction running open SM.

My understanding was that under the pro-class and SM you can only run street tires. How would that hurt my score? How does the index work. I appreciate all the info you guys have been providing.

SM is a Race tire class...You can run a "Tire" Class under SM pax on street tires, but the ATL region doesnt have that tire pax. So run in Open SM, or run Pro but bring some race tires so you do not get butthurt.

I will be in Atlanta this sunday running STX Pro.

Pro is an indexed class where the cars are prepared to the rules of their "base" class, and then each person's time is multiplied by an index (PAX) factor based on their base class's theoretical performance potential.

SM is technically a street tire class in the sense that the Hoosier A6 is technically a street tire. With your mods, your car is very under-prepped relative to the SM rules that your index would be based on. In open SM class you are more likely to be running directly against cars with similar prep level.

The fact that I am only running RE-11's I would not want to compete against others with stickier tires. I will consider the open class. I hate changing wheels at the track/parking lot, so I don't see myself running slicks in the future. I look foward to meeting you topgear.
