Series II - Audio/Electronics Question

Hi everyone,

I'm a member of the UK forum but I thought I'd post this here as you guys have been a little more experimental with your audio setup than we have been across the pond.

As far as I'm aware, the amp in the rear of the car is powered on when your ignition is at position 2. This is the case even if your headunit is off.

However, I have now removed my headunit completely for a project. Will the amp still be turning on at position 2 even without the headunit?

If it isn't, could someone please tell me which wire (either from the harness from the back of the headunit, or the harness going in to the back of the amp) I need to splice in to and attach to an ignition source to have it power on without the headunit.

Kind Regards
Danny

What year is your car, and what exactly are you trying to accomplish? The wiring appears to differ amongst different years in the S2 line. Are you trying to drive the Bose amp with a new head unit? If so, that might prove adventurous...

While I am here, does anyone know the pinout for the Bose amp in the 2011 model? My wire and speaker colors do not match any of the information I have found while searching the past two weeks. For example, my front tweeters are front left (Blue/White and Blue/Black) and front right (Yellow and Yellow/Blue). Does anyone know if the Bose capacitor is on the positive or negative terminal?

The AAA battery test indicates the yellow and blue/white are the positive leads on my tweeters, which means the cap is on the negative terminal. That is unusual, but this IS Bose we are talking about here.

Anyway, sorry for the derail. I will start a new thread for my own experiences in stereo upgrades.

Question

Could somebody help with my replacement Audio project.

I want to replace the head unit (Bose 6 cd) in my 2007 231.

I am looking at a Sony xav 601 BT double din, with the Metra console kit.

Are there problems with having a rear amp?
