Hey guys, new to this forum but been lurking it for the past few days while trying to learn about what seems like one sweet ride. I'm looking at buying a 05 RX8 with 65000ish miles on it. Price is 9350 out the door, that sound ok? The car is in amazing shape on the exterior and the dealer just had it decarbonized with new plugs, coils and wires and a compression test ran on it. I test drove and it rode like a dream. The car has a carfax that shows NO servicing for the first 25k miles but from there on out it's been oil change and basic servicing every 3kmiles or 3 months on the dot and plugs and wires sporadically. Basically just seeing if this price seems alright.

Oh, and it's a standard 6 speed and I'm pretty sure it's a sport edition from what I've read on here. It's got blue fog lights and no moon roof so has to be sport right? Thanks for the help, looking forward to hopefully owning this bad boy saturday .

EDIT: Forgot to mention that this will be a daily driver car. I'm sure that changes everything.

Make sure you get the actual compression test numbers. Just some salesman telling you it was done is not sufficient. Post the numbers here, and we can tell you if they are good. When you drove the car did you shut it down and restart it? Did you drive the **** out of it, or just down the street and around the corner? If not go back and do it again. Drive it like you stole it! Turn off the radio and listen to the car, run the a/c. Listen for any abnormal noises, especially from the engine. If you are then satisfied, and the compression numbers are good, then purchase, good luck!

 

Drove it a decent way and it sounded great. I'd seen the issue with shutting it off and back on so when I got back to the lot I got out, checked the trunk, popped the hood and started it. It did take a second but nothing bad and it did start. And I'll get you the compression test numbers Monday. What is considered good numbers?

 

Compression numbers are not my specialty, However it would appear that anything below 7.? is questionable. Make sure there is an RPM associated with those numbers as well or they don't mean squat. Obviously the higher the better. I would feel better if someone with more knowledge in that area answered that question for you. I can parrot what other people write, but that's not my thing.

 

You can do better! If you're patient and watch craigslist like a hawk, you could potentially save 2-3k, but do as you please :p.

Yeah old post but update ttime since this got bumped. Bought the car, couldn't be happier. Hit a deer a week or so ago though so time for a brand new drivers side :/. Yay insurance.

 

I'm new to the RX 8 family and have been doing my research thoroughly. I'm currently looking into a 2004 GT. As I'm new to this engine style I followed some of the advice found on the form. Here is the information I have gathered on the one I'm currently looking at:
Engine replaced: No
Milage: 138
Compression test results (per current owner): 90/88/89. No rims provided for test (most likely this guy had no idea what I was asking) test completed August 2013
No catalytic converter, has midlife
Oil changed less that 1500 miles ago
Plugs changed 7k ago
Wires changed 15k ago
Engine has been flooded before
(04) back right taillight replaced, no fish bowls
Oil consumption: 1 to 2 K before adding, didn't say how much
Gas milage: 17 city 20 highway
Clutch replaced less than 3 K ago
Car has had 3 owners
Back bumper dented
Has service records
Runs full synthetic oil
Uses a pre mix (two stroke oil) every 3 to 5 fill ups
Extras: midpipe, CO BP tuning device, powertrix coils overs

Asking price is 7500
Any advice on this purchase is greatly appreciated!
