a funny estimate for spoiler delete

$1,200!! lol.... yes after an unsuccessful try at trying to find someone to swap trunks i went to a local body shop for an estimate on removing the factory spoiler and filling the holes. He said he would have to weld the holes closed with another piece of metal then paint the trunk and majority of the back to color match. I have an 04 and its immaculate and shows no sign of paint fade. It was funny to say the least

on a side note did anyone here have a shop do the delete? if so how much was it?
Im also wondering if there are aftermarket spoilers (or the ms) that will use the factory trunk holes???

That quote is on the expensive side but not outrageous and the way he is planning to do it is the right way. Most would just bondo the holes and that will be cheaper but not the best way to do it. So if you want cheap, then go to a shop that will cut corners and roll the dice.

My holes were welded, he had to weld the OE spoiler holes as well as the badge holes AND mount a wing that wasn't made for the RX-8. All said and done right around $400. Shop around, that shop probably didn't want to do it so they blew you away with an overestimate. One shop quoted me $760 to repair a couple of cracks and re-paint my front bumper (which was ridiculous!) You're much better off finding a privately owned shop not in the center of whatever city you live in/near. At least I was...
