Got my oil changed today and the guy "checked" my tires. He came back and told me that he'd increased the tire pressure to 40 ! so I'd get better mileage.

With an RX-8, I am more concerned with performance than with a small increase in gas mileage.

What pressure do you use (original tires on a '04 RX8) ?

 

I run my original tires at 35psi, it was recommended to be my my local dealer that they should be 30psi on the front and 32psi on the rear.

 

I ran 32psi front and rear.

 

sticker in the door jamb says 32psi. it doesn't say this, but set it cold, or the tire light will be on in the morning.

 

Great thing to do in the winter when it's cool....less traction due to overinflation

Bleed them back to 32-34 cold

 

Depends where he lives, his winter might be 60 degrees.

I put in 32 psi. Tends to feel a little squirrely if it's much higher than that...but some people like the squirrely feeling.

I agree with utente...set the pressures so the handling and ride suit you.

I run 40 psi....with the tire as hot as you can get it in that weather.

That's about 35# @ 60 deg ambient.

 

My door sticker is blank.

I run 32 to 33 cold, to get even wear. Much higher, and the center wears and handling seems a little bouncy.

Tires are more expensive than gas.

 

I started running Hankook v12's at 46hot on the track, and then, 44hot on the track, and finally 40hot on the track.

That's about 4 track days, 2 years, and 12k miles mostly highway to and from the the track with the lower 40 psi used because of heat cycle and age hardening of the very soft new Hankooks.

I rotated at 7k miles, but i think wasted my time because the wear is very even all around with 5/32 left across the tread.

this is in fact the best total even tire wear I've ever had on any car or any set of tires.

 

yeah if you're on the track, the tire pressure you end up with depends on the tire.

 

My detailed psi experience would indicate that every time you get the best psi at the track, either the traction conditions, ambient temp, and or tire conditions will be different than the last time.

Setting the same every time might get you within 2 to 4 psi of the optimum.
