Gonna make this short and sweet. Was planning on buying stoptech lines for front/rear brakes on my 05 8. Currently stock rubber lines. Stoptech is about 140ish for both pairs and will take a few weeks to ship from JSC Speed. they are on backorder from cali.
These goodridge lines are in stock and are about $30-35ish cheaper. I cant really tell by the picture but are these the G-stop lines that mazdaspeed/racing beat sells? Also, I know that one of the benefits I've heard of from the stoptech lines is that they use a corrosion-resistant covering on their lines.
Because I drive in the winter, is there any reason why these goodridge lines that may not have that same protective coating, would be a bad idea to purchase? I would imagine any steel lines would be an upgrade from old corroded stock lines.
Anyways, I'm just loooking for opinions. I've heard good things about goodridge but I'm also factoring in the fact that our cars are lower to the ground so they see a lot of abuse, as well as me driving in the winter.
I prefer the RacingBrake lines. The Goodridge lines used to have a fitment issue with the control arm locating tab hole being too small for the bolt. It is thin material and difficult to drill. Almost has to be reamed or cut and split wider apart for the bolt to slide through. The RB lines are way better than the Goodridge in all regards, which is what they had previously provided with their brake kits.

100% right here, almost forgot about that. I too had the issue with the control arm tab holes. I had success just drilling it out wearing a pair of gloves and a stepper bit.. but still, it was a tedious task
I take it you use the stock bolt and the bracket just has too small a hole? Well as long as I can just widen it with a drill bit hopefully it wont be so bad. If it seems like a pretty unreasonable task/fit when I get them, I will send them back and get these racing brakes. Price is about the same. Who knows though, maybe they fixed the issue?? (wishful thinking, I know).
I really wanted to go with stoptech in the first place but because of the wait period, the vendor kind of convinced me to go with the cheaper goodridge.
I doubt they fixed the issue. I just bought my lines a few months ago and they had the problem. I haven't seen enough people complain about it to make it a a priority fix for the company.

I found an awesome-looking 2-pack of stepper bits from harbor freight that seem pretty universal and have labeled markings on the bit. On sale for 16.00. Going tomorrow! Labeled ok for metal-use as well.

This. I've had two StopTech lines burst on me even in regular city driving. Yes, they were installed correctly and was never pinched. Not that I am saying you should keep away from them, but my misfortunes with them and the superior quality of RB should give some food for thought.

I am starting hear more and more about ss lines bursting and other problems. I thought the whole point of ss lines were that they offered a firmer pedal and additional resistance to corrosion making it a safer long-term brake-line option.
When 1 line bursts, do you lose all braking-ability as well as possible control of the vehicle, or just a reduced braking ability and then you bring it to the garage and fix what occurred?
I originally had a soft brake pedal half-way through pushing it down, to which some members recommended bleeding the system of air. I figured that replacing the lines with SS while I was down there would be going that step further to create a safer braking-system, seeing as to my knowledge, the lines have not been replaced, or at least not within the time I've had the car.
