exactly 1 year ago I got a new engine from the dealer for my 2004 rx8, because it failed compression. I was driving it all day today & it was fine. i parked it & i heard a slight ticking noise. after a few hours i started up fine & drove for about 15 minutes & engine lost power, engine light started flashing & of course it sounds terrible. it was still somewhat driveable , when i got home smoke was coming from the engine. I will take it to dealer asap. Does anyone know of any chance of them honoring some sort of warranty on these replacement engines? Any ideas on whats wrong. Thanks for help.

 

Which state are you in? There generally is a warranty on labour, duration depends on the location.
Your best guess is to take it back to the dealer, as you said.

 

Yeah im in nyc. The work was done a week before thanksgiving last year. so im hoping they honor something. I didnt even put 10k on the engine.

 

Well it should have had a 1 year/ 12k mile warranty(whichever comes first) so you would be out of that warranty then. You might get lucky and they will honor it but they really don't have to. If the dealer wont then call up mazda north america and nicely complain about it barely being over the limit.
