Talking Looking to buy me a rx8

Hi,
The names Bryan. As you can tell im really new around here. For a couple weeks now ive been looking around at getting an rx8. I test drove one just recently at a dealer (falling completely in love with the car) and have the car on hold right now in my name. Its a 04 with 70,000. Theyre selling it for 10,000. It has a 3 month 3000 mile warranty. Previous owner was the wife of an owner of an auto sports dealership so the car was taken good care of and is very clean. I have a good job and feel like il be able to put the money into the car it is gonna need. I already did the whole before you buy test I saw here on the forum getting the compression test done etc etc. It passed all. I just wanted to get a few quick opinions. Im driving about 20 miles to work and back every other day with the part time job im working. I live in wisconsin. Winters are rough so winter tires are a need be and I always can get a ride in with a buddy if the weathers just too rough for the car. I also called up mazda all the recalls on the car have been done but not msp16. Is that something I need to be worried about with this high mileage of a car? I know as soon as I get the car il get it done right away. Mazda dealer said itl be $50 and just take a couple minutes. Also im just looking for some opinions on the price etc. Ive done my research but im definetly still a rx8 noob so any suggestions are welcome.

The price is pretty high for a 2004 out of factory warranty. For $10k you can probably get a 2005 or 2006 with similar mileage.

The part that doesn't add up is the mileage, plus 2004 plus no MSP-16. I'd expect that it would have had an engine failure by now without MSP-16, but if they did an engine replacement they would have done MSP-16 as well.

An original engine 2004 at 70k without MSP-16? I'd be very very wary. And definitely not for $10k.

You can find a better deal. I got an 05 with 34k miles for 11k about a year ago.

You said it passed a compression test but what were the numbers? Don't trust the dealer to just say it passed without giving you the specific compression and rpm, you should have got a paper with 6 compression numbers and 2 rpms.

As others already said...the price is a bit high for an 04 with that mileage, find another one, there are plenty out there.

Just do not settle for an rx8 because you need a car right now. Wait until the right one comes along or you may make a bad purchase.

I'm a little weary about this one.

What's up guys!

so I'm looking to buy an RX-8 soon and there is one nearby my home for 8k. It has 272,000 miles on it. Yes I know lots! At first i was going to turn away but i thought if anything did fail maybe it has already been replaced. Should I go for it or back away and run!?

At 272,000, we feel that you have an obligation to the RX-8 community to call MazdaUSA with the VIN to see if there has ever been an engine replaced. Probably. Almost certainly. But... maybe Elf has some competition?

I don't think Elf sold his yet, and it's the only one that might be near that mileage from the boards here.

You know what that's not a bad idea! Unfortunately with a quick look on Craigs list the car appears to be gone, so I wasn't able to get the VIN. Maybe it was for the best though. However, thanks for the idea about calling Mazda USA. That will help in the near future.
