Hello all...I've been reading these forums for months trying to gather information

and make a decision on buying an 8.

I'm looking at buying a 2004 GT MT with 42k on the clock, the seller has provided

me with a log of every oil change, service bulletin, and other maintenece done to

the car with the day and mileage it was performed and backed by reciepts for

proof. He's the original owner, and the car is on the original motor..I know I need

to get a compression test done to check the health of the engine, but is there

anything else I need to look for?

But it does sound like you're off to a good start, and might have found a real gem of a car, with a fantastic original owner.

What you should look for in the receipts is ignition coil, spark plug, and spark plug wire replacement. Your current mileage is right around the typical failure point for this car, and it would be great if the owner has already replaced them recently, otherwise, you should budget in their replacement if you decide to go ahead with the purchase.

Yes it show's the coil, spark plugs and wires replaced at 20k and 40k....I Live in South TX where it get very hot..is there anything I can do to the car if I get it to help with keeping it cool(er)? I'm pretty sure I'm pulling the trigger on this car.

 

The seller really takes care of this car. He keeps maintenance records, receipts, and what's done to this car. Anyway, you need to have a compression test done before you decide to pull the trigger. If you decide to get it, then good luck with it.

That will give you the most reliable cooling system you can have on an RX-8.

It sounds like you found a great car to buy.
Just get a compression test, and ask the shop that does it to remove and inspect the catalytic convertor. With the coil changes the original owner has done, I doubt there's going to be any real chance of damaged convertor, as long as they drove the car normally.
