The Nexus 8 (Nexus 7 / Focal install)
The Nexus 8 (Nexus 7 / Focal install)

Hey guys, longtime lurker here.
Thought you might like to see my lastest addition to my car
Full build tread can be seen on MP3car here!!!
I installed a Google Nexus 7 in-dash using a modified Metra kit. I also replaced the fairly terrible Bose system with a 3-way Focal component set....massive improvement. The audio is run through a Clarion EQ (in glove box) to give me all the controls I want (sub level, fader, eq), and to act as a line driver for the tablet. I made some adapters for the front 6.5's out of MDF and placed the speakers as off center as possible so that the drivers cleared the glass. The speakers are powered by a 100wpc JBL amp. I am going to add a Focal Polyglass 13" sub to the system very soon.

Here is the end results:

Spotify in the car!
I am really happy with how it came out. I especially like how it pretty much disappears into the dash when the screen is off.
Comments Welcome!

I am using a modded (shorted data pins for "ac" charging) 3 amp cigarette adapter from a switched 12V source for power, and I use the stock android "stay awake" feature to automatically turn the screen on/off when it senses charging. I am impressed with how quickly the tablet turns on using this, it is nearly instant-on. It turns off after 15 seconds without incoming charge.
So the drivers on the dash are just sitting up there? Even if they're secured down, I'd give some serious thought to some custom a-pillar work to clean that up. Badass speaker set though. Big spender.
Thanks for the compliments!
In regards to the speakers just sitting there, don't worry this is still very much a work in progress! The mids are mounted in sealed "pods" that are by no means permanent (velcroed to the dash actually
). If you look at my build thread hard mounting the mids is one of the things on my to-do list. I was in a time crunch to at least get them in the car, as I have no nice place to work with stuff like fiberglass at college.
Other stuff I plan to incorporate: OBDII reader info (I have a Sony liveview I want to use as a digital gauge), some nice volume and bass control *****, a usb DAC, and to get external storage working.
Edit: Have any of you guys used Dynomat in the doors of your 8? If so, does it significantly help with rattles? I surprised at how much that black plastic panel rattles with just the 6.5's, even the rear doors rattle. I can just image how bad it will be when I put a sub in it.
