I was contacted today by some guy claiming to be very interested in my car and having their wheels on it. The problem is I have never been a fan of other people spending money in my car and then thinking they have a say on anything. so out of curiosity for those ho have had any experience with this type of stuff is How does it work? To be honest with you I was so NOT interested that I didnt even remember the brand.. lol but now that I thought of it, I could use some nice new wheels...

 

are they expecting you to sign anything?

 

I actually blew him off. I listened for a couple of minutes and told him I didnt had time for BS.. But It just made me curious on how does all that works.. Ive heard a lot of bad stories about sponsorship.

 

No personal experience with it, but I had someone on my old club kind of detail the process out:

You sign a contract with them that they will provide x service, y product, z discount. In return, you must make x amount of "appearances" at car shows.

My understanding is that your end of the contract is rather large, and can be very difficult to uphold. Also, depending on the language of the contract, any missed show/defaulting on the agreement can void the contract, and they can pull the sponsorship/parts just that easily.

To be honest, I think you will be better off without it, unless it is something you are actually prepared to undertake.

i always thought you can "choose" the mods you put on your car even if you are sponsored. As in if im sponsored by enkei for example i can choose WHICH enkei wheels i can rock. But i guess not :|

 

Your responses are exactly what i thought.. yup, no need for the BS.. it is how its always been. My hard work sponsors my car. And thats that...

Whatever wheel company it is would probably want you to slap their stickers all over your car also.

 

Usually a sponsor will require a min. of 2 stickers well placed on your car, sometimes four depending on sponsor. Your not necessarily their "bitch" that is an over exaggerated statement. Most of the time they require you to go to X amount of car shows throughout the year and provide pictures/proof that you were at said event.

 

I couldn't agree more. If I am hot for their product it is likely already on my car, not the other way around. Sounds like a case where you have what they want, not the other way around. And the idea of them having their hand in your pocket for whatever purpose is a reality. I've turned down a number of offers just for this reason. I value my independence over anything else.
