Little help for a Nooby?

So I have looked on here to find some similar issues, but I would still like some feed back on what people would think of the issues I have been having. What kind of steps I should take, and such. Well to start off I been noticing a slight pusle of lost power in 1st and 2nd around 6500 and 7000 RPMs. That had been going on for a while just thought maybe it's the way it's tuned (Stock). Well now I have been having starting problems both cold and hot. I have been doing the Crank for 5-8 seconds, off, on, let it situate itself, and then crank again. Well lately it has been taking 2 rotations of doing that to get it started. It seems to start at the last second of the 8 seconds I crank it for. Then after it's up and start I rev up to around 2500 and let it go back down, but as the RPMs are lower it seems to backfire(?) or like pop I guess is how I could describe it. Could this be just the need for Sparkplugs and a Starter or does it seem more like a compression loss? With the long cranking its been throwing Crank Shaft Sensor of course as it should, so I go ahead and do the 20 brake presses, and off. It clears it, but then I go to start again, and it comes back. Not sure if that could be an issue also. I have had the car for around 2 months, and I have put about 1500 miles on it. My oil level light came on, and I picked up a bottle of Royal Purple Synthetic 5w20, and add it to the oil. About a week after doing that is when the starting issues began. I am going to do an oil change soon, but I feel it would be kinda pointless if I'm going to have to re-do my Apex's. Another noise I have been hearing is like a springing kind of sound come from under the car when I'm high RPMs in Second. I think I might also have a slight exhaust leak because I can hear the exhaust sound from under the car around the beginning of the Cat. It has a new Cat on it, so I'm pretty sure the Cat is fine.

So there's my gripe. Hope someone will be able to help me out! Ohh and please don't yell at me about posting I have used search, and researched, but I just wanted to double check and get some personal feedback. Thanks a ton!

have your computer scanned at a local autozone for free. The, come back here and post the numbers you were given. Then we can help you diagnose.

Also, more info is required, regarding your service history, make/model/year of car, etc.

I'm in California I went to Autozone to have them check the codes, and they said it's against California Law to do that. It's a 2004 Rx8 6speed with the 9k Redline. The service history is long haha.. I have paperwork from May that has a new motor M/T on it. Which is why I refuse to beleive it is a compression problem. Other than that it's all oil changes on regular basis at the Mazda dealer, and the other required services.

The paper with the new motor says the following:

Preformed Diagnosis and inspection preformed Decarb process, Inspected Spark plugs and preformed compression checks once cat was replaced - Engine compression low - Replaced Engine
Engine Short M/T Replaced
Gasket set Replaced
Zoom Power Cleaner
Rec Starter (Weak) Customer Declined (The Dealership who owned it at the time)
Cat Replaced along with gaskets
Replaced 3 Solenoid valves

Looking back at the Carfax last time the Sparkplugs were replaced was at 58k miles I just broke 90k this weekend. Engine mounts replaced at 85k, and induction service at 58k also. Other than that nothing major has been serviced

If you can get your car up, pull down the front of the cat converter and check inside with a flashlight. My bet is that it's clogged.
Also, plugs and coils should be changed at max 30k miles. At 90k, I also do the plug wires. Look into the Black Halo Racing ignition solution. You can also do a test on them to see if they function properly, before spending money recklessly. I'll post a link in a minute.

Looks like you have the original starter motor. That can lead to weak start times. You can purchase an upgraded starter, (and many other parts for cheap) at mazmart.com (a vendor of these forums).

I was think about going with this starter:
http://www.autozone.com/autozone/par...1773_192252_0_

And getting the Black Halo System. The started on Mazmart is 400$ I can't really afford that much at this point (Military Pay sucks.. Lol)

im sure you know that you should never drive the car with the oil light on. or actually you should not even drive it to the point where the light turns on. Every 2 gas fillups, pop the hood and check the oil.

not replacing the spark plugs, coils and wires every 30k can easily lead to cat failure.

scowl the forums for a used upgraded starter if you cant afford that one.

As soon as it turned on I was pulling into a Walmart, so I grabbed a bottle.

I wasn't sure when the last time the ignition had been touched, but since I know now I'm going to get those tonight.

Thanks I'll look on the forums tonight also.
