It's actually a pretty good article. Read it yesterday. I like how he discussed how it's absolutely a great daily driver if you can disregard the "horrendous" gas mileage.

There's less talk about the car itself in that article than random ramblings about everything else.
And I would have to work extra hard to get as bad of a fuel mileage like the author claimed, during similar conditions.

Sadly, I've gotten 15.5 mpg before. I personally moved to a location where work is no more than 5 mins away. I am literally "warming-up" the car the whole way to work. On a really cold day, it's probably not even fully warmed up when I get to the parking lot. If you think about it, I'm running on too rich of a mixture and probably burning way more gas than it normally would. Of course, I have driven 65 mph the whole way out of town and got the 22~23 mpg range, so I know it can do it. Just different driving situations and what not.

Back on topic, I liked the article because I ramble about nostalgic things when I get into cars. Heck, every time I climb into my RX-8, I think about that RX-7 (FD) that I fell in love with when I was a little kid. Now I own a piece of that history and heritage. Really, the article was like a parting piece. The RX-8 is discontinued after all, and it's like he's saying "Don't forget to look back on the past". *shrugs*. Someday we could be driving the next new RX model and looking back on how we all loved our RX-8 so much.

I don't have to look back on the RX-8 at all.

Except when I leave it in the parking garage. I don't have to be nostalgic about something I own just because there aren't any new ones being made.

Murliee Martin is one of my favorite contemporary auto journalists. His stuff on Jalopnik was legendary, and when they canned him to cut their budget, well, the site became the snoozefest it is today.

I am glad that he both reviewed the 8, and liked it. If you read the comments on that article, he's researching used 8's now.

Good read! Yet another winning review of the RX-8 by someone who gets paid to drive and review dozens of cars every year. It was a review not unlike this one that first got me thinking about this car nine years ago.
