I did some experimenting with a GoPro Hero2 stuck to my passenger window, facing sideways. If a car is in the lane right next to me, the fisheye lens distorts it quite a bit, but if there is a lane or more between cars, there doesn't appear to be any distortion. I had the camera set for 720-60.

I'm looking forward to the next time we get together so I can get some of this style of video of y'all's cars!

 

I didn't notice it while filming but, in the first clip, there was a 1st Generation RX-7 in the far lane. It looked like a nice one!

 

I am trying to figure out how we could do a video car since the roads we are on are 2 lane roads? I love the idea, just trying to figure out how to make it work???

 

Roads that have a passing lane would work but the on-coming lanes would need to be clear. If we were on a freeway it would work if each set of cars got over to the far side of their lane. it would take some planning but the results would be cool.

How did you get rid of the fisheye look?

I re-rendered the video in After Effects using the optics compensation filter. It's a filter that lets you adjust the image and correct (or add) the fish eye effect.

Given the lens on the camera, you'll always have some distortion around the edges, but this cleans it up pretty good.

I just received my GoPro 3D kit and am anxious to get out on the road to see what the videos look like. Does anyone out there have a 3D TV? I don't yet but my Best Buy credit card is all of a sudden burning a hole in my pocket!
