went out looking for a car found an 8 with a new motor. paper work to prove it. just need to add it to the insurance then go pick the beast up just wanted to ask about the break in procedure. if anyone can help out in that department

 

2k miles, dont redline till after that...once you hit that point, a redline a day keeps the carbon away, AND dont be afraid to redline, its not a piston engine, youre not going to break anything.

There's a difference between a break-in procedure on a new engine and a reman engine.
Search there was a thread not long ago regarding Mazda's recommendations on how to properly break-in a reman engine.

 

Just drive it like you stole it, that's the reman break-in procedure...

ya premix helps. Reman engines are not like a brand new crate engine off the assembly line. The break-in period IMO is not as strict or long. I've been running premix (Idemitsu) in my new engine first day it was put in. Play it safe for the first 1000km and try to keep it under 4000rpm, i say try because i know its hard, jumping up into 5000-6000rpm once or twice through the first 1000km is not going to kill it, but definitely avoid redline, then oil change, then for the next 500~1000km have a bit more fun, 6000-7000rpm, but still avoid redline. after a total of 1500-2000km on the new engine, change oil again then have all the fun you want.

Basically-----
first 1000km - try to stay under 4000rpm *change oil*
2nd 1000km - have more fun, but still avoid redline *change oil*
... now have fun.

oh, and always allow the car to warm up before you start to drive it hard. usually about 8-10mins, depending on outside temps... cold day is going to require a bit more warm up time, verses a hot summer day.
