I was looking at the cxracing coilover kit and was wondering if the spring rates were decent for occasional drift use.
ride height adjustable
32 step damper adjustment
spring rates: 10kg/mm front, 5.5kg/mm rear.
for $700, this seems like a decent deal, if anyone has any experience with these, let me know.

I'm not sure how you would consider them cheap but as a local drifter its one of the name brands I was refered to buying, since it worked for others and it defently worked for me lol
just went to one on sunday, also drift on the weekends in a very large vacant parking lot. I'm just not in love with the amount of body roll.
how are the powertrix race coilovers for drifting?
Don't get CX's racing. They are straight garbage, coilover wise.
Atleast get Megans, they are also garbage, but known.

I say at the very least get megans If you can have some patience save the money and get stance or something better. I have stance on my 8 love them, they go pretty low too. IF I was balling I would get some MOTON,KW, or Ohlins!

It's pretty easy to tell, espacially if your low low.
If they are garbage, I doubt one of the fastest circuit evo in the world would be trusting them.

Granted its not fair to compare a $3,000 stance coil to a $1,200 one. but still.

I went for BC Coilovers for mine, I wanted to run Cusco's but as a beginner I just want to get to the track this year, going Cusco would have literally put me back around 2 to 3 months. My build has one priority, get me to the track and I will upgrade as my skill set improves, for all I know I could be rubbish and go a different line so no point buying the best of the best just yet...
I love them but I have never had any others so my opinion my be lopsided.
although I'm sure they are undoubtedly easier to get it to slide, right? thats my primary goal.

I agree with imput, drift your car stock then go from there. Work on the driver mod and learn to drift with stock suspension, then work your way up to upgrades to get a feel what each part does. I've seen another rx8 owner who runs stock suspension and disconnects the front and rear endlinks and drifts like a champ. The body roll helps with transitions and initiations, also has more leeway on mistakes. Having too stiff of a suspension makes the car twitchy and if you don't know what you are doing then you will lose control/oversteer/spinout. Dont expect to spend tons on money on parts and expect to drift like a pro, a mistake that I made, you will learn alot about your car stock and our stock car is pretty dam good for drifting. Just get out there with spare wheels and learn to countersteer / clutch kick / ebrake if you have a hydro (stock sucks).
Oh remember to turn off traction control completely, hold the DSC button for 10secs to get the 2 lights

Thanks for the input! Been drifting since march last year. Seat time definitely helps! and so do 17's! Ha! Made the switch from 18's to 17's before last weekends event. I notice quite a difference!
Now time to increase steering capabilities! Anyone done any knuckle mods, extended tie rods?
