Straight pipes

I was wanting to put straight pipes on my 2004 but I was going to leave the converter on it. I was wondering if it was a good ideal to to this or not. I was going to cut the muffler out and y pipe it from there.

Why would you want to do that?

Are you just trying to do this because its a cheaper option for you??? I mean the Rx-8 has a good amount of exhausts out there to choose from lol

I think you would be better just buying a proper exhaust. A TurboXS is a good budget option, around $500 with the cat replacement pipe

i agree with wrightcomputing it would be better just because at least with a proper exhaust you wont lose power and with straight pipes your more likely to lose power and I have an exoticspeed r1-t exhaust and it sounds great tubroxs doesnt sound bad either and greddy hks jic even megan racing sound great you need to hear some of these exhausts out on the market and you'll just hear the reason why its better to buy a proper exhaust then just getting straight pipes and would look better too imho.

I have straight pipes and a BHR midpipe, it's soooo dang loud lol...it's annoying honestly, but if you drive it fairly gently under 4k it sounds like an airplane hahaha

This had no reference to engine tuning or the Cobb Accessport, so I moved the thread.

thank you

when I first got my 8 I installed a cat back straight pipe i.e., factory cat & resonator only. This was in early 2005. It didn't stay on very long. I think my ears are still ringing ... it wasn't so much how loud it was. Despite the loudness there was this underlying pitch sound. The best way I can describe it is like a piercing dentist drill noise in the center core of your brain.

This was very useful to me as my power steering went out a couple of weeks ago.
