Angry Local Rotary mechanics.

Being that it's so hard to find anyone that knows anything about rotary engines and the dealers not being much better...We should start a listing of good rotary engine specialists. I'm currently looking for someone who can firstly fix the issues I have now after the dealership told me they had no idea what was wrong with my car when I explained the symptoms. So I need mechanics that can fix a rotary and later when Incan afford to build it up...a shop that can tune it up and install turbos, flywheels, headers, catback exhaust, fuel delivery upgrades and management system and any computer and chip mods and that can dial it all in. I live in Connecticut. So if we can list each specialist by state and some type of contact info wether it be email, URL link, phone number etc. And if a mod can pretty up the list once we get enough posts. Ty

Doesn't help much for the masses. But I found this a while back for the Northeast people.

really dude!?! I know it was a seriously long read, but he was clearly asking about CT not NV. Not sure why this is in this in this forum since its not related to any of the topics in here.

Im more interested in an answer to this than ever right now too though. It seems the midwest and west coast are better places when looking for speed shops who could do an engine swap reliably and well. Theres no way in hell either the dealer due to massive costs or some random indie due to a bigger chance they would **** it up royally just by the sheer lack of rotary experience would be who i had swap my engine. Add on the QA issues with normal remans and i think i'd have better luck trying to walk out of a casino with stolen chips then i do getting a stable reliable reman swap.

I'd go petit but at 6k just for the block + core and then shipping and the time waits its months at best and way too much money to sink into a car like the rx8.

I don't know of any rx-8 specific shops in New England, but I do know of a couple rotary shops and people that know what they're doing in the NE.

IRP is in Metuchen, NJ and they aren't too bad. They have a pretty decent reputation in the FD rx-7 community.

Speed1 is in Lenhartsville, PA. I'm a big fan of Speed1, they work on all generationof rx-7's and rx-8's and really know their ****.

There is also a guy living in CT who is a badass fabricator, tuner, mechanic, electrician and engine builder. He used to work at Speed1 as their fabricator and one of the engine builders/tuners. You can contact him (Brian) over on Rotary Car Club where he's one of the moderators (username: TitaniumTT).

As I reside in Newfoundland, and am planning to purchase a 2007, I can't help but wonder how I will find ANYONE to service my car. As far as I have been able to determine, there are only a handful of RX8's in the entire province; thus why I am planning a road trip to Quebec and Ontario in my hunt for one of these cars. So if anyone knows of ANYBODY in all of Newfoundland with rotary engine experience, please let me know!

I know this thread is a bit old. Hopefully I don't get in trouble for posting here, but Pineapple Racing in Troutdale, OR would be great for rebuilds. Not sure if they do regular maintenance, however.

just the usual stuff for rotary owners, uncommon engine configuration and no available programs for ''soon to be'' mechanics at schools results to this, the '' My teacher told me rotaries are a mess and way too complicated to deal with'' story is a common thing.Mazda don't give enough formation to their mechanics either. All u can wish for is being lucky enough to have a specialized shop near by. Or you learn by yourself. The good thing about 13b's is their small size and weight, so you can always ship it to a reputable shop for rebuilt. But thats only for internals problems, When it comes to engine accessories, electrical, injection, ignition ect.. it ain't much different from otto cycle engines. Long story short : Don't be sad about the lack of mechanics unless **** goees really wrong lol. If your local mechanic can't figure out minor issues with your wankel he might just not be good at all. Diagnosing baics stuff like compression, fuel system, ignition system and obd codes ain't too freakin' hard. My 2 cents

Its been a minute, but if anyone needs it close to Mississippi, "Bones" the master Tech at Mazda of Ridgeland is the only person I would ever let touch my rx-8s. Hes had his hands on them since I bought both of them.

Now, if someone close to the St Louis metro wants a rebuild, I have a close friend of mine that is a mechanic for the small byplanes and he has done more than a handful of rebuilds for a couple people I personally know.

It may just be my experience with Bones, but I would not recommended him. I took my 8 to him for a deflood. 2 days later he told me it smelled like it was burning coolant, the radiator cap shot off, and that it was pushing compression through the radiator. Since then I have discovered that none of those facts were true. The only "smell" i grt from the exhaust is cause its running lean (fuel issue). The few times I have run it hard enough to see high temps, I never had an issue with the radiator cap (can't remember if I replaced the cap before or after taking car to Bones though). And compression through the radiator would bubble the coolant, which mine does not. Again, not saying he doesn't know what hes doing, just saying my experience with him was rather negative.

I'm thinking of purchasing my first 8 but I'm scared about the car break down in the road. Because my friend had an 8 before and he has engine problem. But he didn't have to deal with that problem because he got his car repo'ed.

So I need a mechanic that is located in Southern California that know what he/she is doing.

My guess is to rather educate yourself and tell the mechanic how to fix your car, or guide him on where the issues might be and what he should take into account. It's tough to tell a mechanic how he should do his job, but you don't have much of a choice. Although I don't see why your mechanic should have knowledge on rotaries except for when he has to take apart your engine.

You might try a PM.
If you get a response, and he wants to be included in the rebuilder's thread, please post his info there.

GA Need RX8 help!

Towed our 2005 RX8 to Mazda of Roswell (Atlanta, GA) and THREE MONTHS later, car still not fixed. Mazda dealership and Corporate were no help. Not sure if THEY even know what to do with their own vehicle? Weirdest experience ever. Only received the runaround from these people. If anyone has a mechanic who knows these vehicles, would love to get a reference! Thank you

Corporate?
MNAO?
Have you tried walking in there and loudly chewing the service manager's ***?
I would, and wait for the dealer manager, chew his, then ask for the owner's contact info.
3 months is WAY past time for answers.
