Hi,

I have a Mazda RX8 2004 auto. 124,000km.
I was at the lights and the engine starts to make that choking noise... at the next lights, happened what I feared would happen: the car stalled.
Any idea why that happened and how to fix that?

Note: the car was driving warm (oil at temperature) and in auto gear.

Note 2: I had that problem before. Mazda said it was low compression and reccommended to change the engine! I found a rotary specialist who just cleaned it (i.e. removed carbon) and it worked fine... until now. I'd rather have to avoid the de-carbonating thing again since it cost be $1500!!

i dont where youre from, but mazda has a 100k mile/ 8 yr warranty on the engine core. If mazda said it was low compression you shouldve taken the free engine

 

haha that was no mention of a free engine. not under warranty anymore (in Australia). this was gonna cost me $8-9k.

Low compression = bad engine.

hmmmmm but does it run fine when you actually go? any Check Engine Lights?

 

It does run fine otherwise. Although sometimes, the Check Engine Light comes on. But then would go a few days later, so I never worried.
What should I do??

 

does the CEL flash? have you had it read to see what codes pop up?

 

no, it's just steady on for a few days. then disappears for a week or two. then back on again...

I took it to Mazda when the CEL was on, they couldn't find anything wrong.
