OR Looking for an Auto-X co-driver

I'm looking for a reliable/responsible co-driver this year for Auto-X this year. I'm looking for help with pre-race prep including: wheel changes, fluid checks, stereo removal etc. Also, I am looking for some financial assistance for expendables and wear and tear items (to be discussed during the "interview") that take an extra beating during events. We will discuss responsibility for and how we will handle any damages that might occur on course.

I compete in SCCA class STX. I am # 69, and have a set of 1s, so you can choose 169 or 691 or bring your own #s.
Since I DD this car that I will only be considering your responsibilities when appropriate.

Oregon region SCCA Auto-X takes place at PIR and Packwood, WA. The schedule and related other links are posted in thread http://www.mazdasnw.com/showthread.p...458#post242458. We can discuss other clubs and venues as well, I plan on attending a couple ORPCA events this year as well.

I would like to discuss specifics in private, but I will address generalities here. Feel free to PM me, I will give my ph# as needed.

I took a preliminary look at the tire wear over last season. I'm guessing that the entire season is about 1/4 of the tread on 200TW tires. Therefore tire cost-share alone should be expected in the $200-$300 range.

I'm gonna give this a quick bump to make sure there aren't anymore people that are interested.

Yeah no kidding. That takes a lot of faith and trust. I guess if you're ok with someone destroying your car.

Have you autocrossed before? It isn't that hard on the car and tons of people co-drive. People have let me co-drive their cars many times and I have let quite a few people co-drive mine. Now road racing at a track, I would be much more concerned about letting someone else drive my car.

Good luck finding a co-driver. I would recommend posting on one of the autocross club forums or mailing lists.

I have autocrossed. And I have seen a co-driver total his friend's brand new Honda Civic. It was at Bremerton, and the driver was going down the taxi way pushing it too hard. He kicked out the back end and started a "tank slapper." He went off into the grass and into the ditch. That ditch has ate quite a few cars. The whole front end was destroyed. I felt so sorry for the guy. I never will forget the look on his face. I hope their friendship lasted.

There are other innocent mistakes that could be done to hurt the car too.

I have also seen two almost head on collisions where someone got lost and started up the wrong way and ignored the red flags. I believe they were with the BSCC. Their courses tend not to be as safe and as well put together as the SCCA's (but usually more fun and fast )

I agree with you though, it's mostly harmless fun, but it only takes that one little mistake to cause some damage.

-- -- in .5 seconds haha

I do like his approach to having all the details discussed first though. And I do you wish you luck and a fun season Deminic.
