2 questions about the rx8 before I look at buying.

I own a s5 rx7 before so I know how they work, and I think its time to get a newer car that is easier to find parts for. But there where some things I wanted to know.

I don't want to over pay for a used rx8, what is the least/ most you would pay for a used 2005 rx8?

The next question I have is regarding the power train warranty, from what I know is that the warranty got extended for 96m/100k miles. But what can you do to extend the warranty if the car has gone over?

Thanks guys

It depends on the location, mileage, condition, and package of the vehicle.

I've seen 05's being sold through CarMax for 15k, which is obviously overpriced.
I believe 05's are around 9-10k, they're not much more than '04 models.

When I had my engine replaced, they extended my warranty for 12k miles/12months and offered an extended warranty plan for around $3,500 for an additional 50k miles.

Personally, I do not find it worth it as I believe it only covers the engine, and a rebuild engine is around $2,100 without labor.

Thats what I was thinking, I was checking KBB, and they said it was about $15k.

I know the earlier rx8 motors are not the best, but would anyone buy an 04 with 93k miles?

I just want to know because I dont want to get rid of my already good car, for a car that might go out on me. (which I think is everyone's fear)

I have a question, I just got back from the dealership, and they wanted to sell me a 05 shinka rx8 (black cherry) with 33k miles for $13k. Are they asking for too much, or is that a deal?

Just about right, plus an 05 with a very low mileage is a steal. You should go for it, good luck.

Location is a huge factor... For what you could buy a car up here in the NW would be a pretty terrible deal in Texas.

That being said, what you are describing seems like a pretty reasonable deal. Be sure to do your due diligence in making sure that the car is in good shape. Start by reading all of the stickies in the General Discussion forum.

Is it an automatic or a manual transmission?

Personally, I love love love my '05 Shinka.

From what I was told, it was owned by an old couple, and the wife couldnt drive standard, so it was garage kept since it was bought. So im sure everything was taken care of. (inside was clean, and they didnt even detail the car yet) Down side is that I dont think i can make the payments. I was looking forward to the car costing at least 9k, so an extra 4k is a little to much.

thanks for the advice!

When you are looking for an rx8 and you hear the words "old couple" and "babied" then you need to run far away from that rx8. Chances are it was never run very hard by the owners and you may get more problems from that engine. I'm not saying anyone described as an "older couple" would never drive the car hard, but it seems less likely.

If someone tells you they regularly redlined the car and always topped off the oil and all that, that is better as long as they are telling the truth.
