I just bought an 8 about two months ago and the brake dust build up is ridiculous! Any suggestions about better brakes for the RX8? It is about time for me to change them anyway.

 

Hawk Ceramics if you want good pads that don't dust.

Off the shelf ceramics if you don't care about the performance and just want clean.

I've heard that if the car doesn't come stock with ceramic pads then it's not recommended to switch to them, but I'm sure others will have different opinions. I just use the Hawk HPS pads and there is minimal dust compared to stock.

 

Absolutely nothing wrong with running ceramics. Your rotors don't care, and the source you heard it from is an idiot.

They won't outperform HPS, HP+ or other metallic pads, but they won't hurt a damn thing.

I run Hawk Ceramic pads and they work great on our cars.
As for the 'if it didn't come with them, it's not recommended', that's BS. Just make sure to properly bed in the pads and you'll be fine. (google that and you'll find instructions)

Thanks a lot for the info guys. One more question. Do the hawk ceramics work better than other brakes when they get pretty hot? Because their name makes it seam like they would.

 

Nope, they're street pads.

 

No they are street pads, I have seen some people use them for spirited driving and be ok. Others have tried them on the track and have melted. Typically the only type of pad that works better when it gets hotter would be a track pad that has specific operating temps.

Since Brice bought up the subject it's fair to add that track pads aren't any better than street pads if you drive on the streets. Even "spirited" driving doesn't come close to what temps these pads generally need. Their abrasiveness at lower temps only kills the rotors quicker and their effective μ may not be on par with that of good street pads either.

 

just wash the car more often.

 

i have to wash my car every 2-4 days. i let it go 12 days and my rims turned to R3 rims and my CWP turned a few shades darker. I wish CWP looked as AMAZZING during the day than it did at night with a light on it. Wow this post was unrelated?
