fyi,
pep boys has a 3ton jack, two jack stands, two wheel chalks and a creeper on sale for 29 bucks.

i already had the jack, but for 29 bucks i now have two.

now if i could just find the right size wire mesh to protect the oil coolers.

You can change the oil without jacking up the car

 

Yeah, but if you jack up the drivers side you'll drain the left oil cooler and you can get over 5 1/2 quarts in on a change (vs. 3-4). I already have a cheap floor jack & jack stands combo and it works great- well worth the extra 2 minutes prior to an oil change.
