Heard mixing stories on this.

I bought my 04 Rx8, and they said the remote was bad so just recently i bought a new remote and tried programming(the locks did cycle, except for when pressing the remote twice).

Now i heard some people say you have to have an old working remote and some say that you dont. So do i? Because mine doesnt work and i just called the dealership and they said it'd cost 110$ to program.

I dont understand how opening and closing the door is worth 110, unless they take the car apart and program it a different way.

 

Your fob probably isn't compatible. I actually bought mine from ebay and apparently it wasn't compatible with the 04 models so they had to send me a new one. You should contact the person who sold you the fob you currently have and see about getting one that is compatible.

 

Well thats what i was thinking, but i drove to the mazda dealership and had them lookup the remote via my vin number and they brought it out and it was the same exact one. the visteon 41848, FCC 41805. But they were closing so tomorrow im going back to the dealership and they're gonna let me test that remote.

Then ill know if its the remote i ordered or if its my keyless entry box thing
