So apparently it is a GT but it has a $4500 accident claim in its history. Should I forget about it? Someone please talk me out of it...

I can talk you out of it ....

Automatic RX8's are slow .... the only thing slower is a automatic Rx8 built between 2003 and 2005 they where sooo slow they used Geologic time periods to measure the 0-60 time.

It's a 2007 with lots of mileage.
That means it's going to require quite a bit of maintenance soon, if its not already hasn't been done.

The RX8 in general is a gear head type car ... meaning to requires some more attention then most vehicles. Yes they can be a bit of a high maintenance vehicle.

Well maybe your wife might be high maintenance .... and if she is expected to take care of it then there is some poetic justice in the purchase that might make you sleep better.

lol

Oh whatever you decide....
When buying a Rotary car (any type) always always always get a compression test done before purchase. Really.

Thanks for the feedback.
Not worried about it being slow. They still handle great, look gorgeous and are fun to drive.
I suppose the mileage is high-ish for a 2007 (although 20k/year isn't excessive) but I'm not too worried about that or the extra care required (we both love cars), and I was planning to take it to Scarboro Mazda for an inspection (incl. compression test) before purchase, assuming Scarboro Mazda is still the place to go (if there's a better place in the area please let me know).
What I'm most concerned about in this case is the $4500 accident. Some people say not to worry about it because $4500 isn't too much for an accident repair but I think it's high and my wife's safety is high on my list of priorities.

Will you keep it forever? An auto RX-8 will be harder to sell on than a manual, plus it has accident damage. I'd pass.

I bought my rx8 after it was written off at ~6800km.

Not a problem since that I didn't cause myself or was a known issue and it's now 50k higher in mileage. Just have it inspected by someone who knows what they're looking for (ie: check alignment, frame, etc).

That said, auto = bleh. But price is nice, MS aero kit is a bonus, and it looks in decent shape from the photos. I wouldn't ignore it but compare to what else is out there.

Thanks for the feedback all. I've managed to talk myself out of it for now given we currently have a single car garage and need to do the car shuffle frequently, and I'd worry about flooding with an 8. Plus with the auto I'd still be jonesing for a stick to hear that engine scream up to the 9k redline. So I'll tough it out for now.

Defiantly the right choice

Hope to see you back soon, in a Manual

FYI if you plan on doing some heavy mod'ing ... get a series I model so you can use the Cobb AP

There might be something soon for the Series II so check first ... but atm nothing

I had my 2004 RX8 GT wrote off last year when a Camaro hit my head on cus he lost it on a turn. The headlights were over a grand a piece being HID. These days 4500 may not be as much damage as one would expect.
