Snapped the parking brake cable?

Snapped the parking brake cable?
So I got home today, parked, pulled up the parking brake handle, and... hear a SNAP! And now the parking brake handle just flops around freely.
So I'm guessing I snapped the cable inside there somewhere? Anything I should check (I'm not mechanically inclilned, I mean anything easy and obvious lol) before it goes to the mechanic?

Have someone look at the cable from underneath while you operate the lever ,just above the driveshaft, there is a single heavy cable about a foot long which connects to 2 thinner cables ,one for each side rear brake.
