You do not need it if you have a Series 2, as they come with an extra (3rd) Cooling Fan speed.

Series 1...2 Speed Cooling Fans
Series 2...3 Speed Cooling Fans

Any fan controller from FAL, SPAL, etc. can be wired in. It's rather simple. Whether you need the fans to come on earlier is the question. But having them come on earlier is always a good thing IMO.

Repeat it is not needed the Series 2, they have both stronger fan motors, revised radiator, water pump and an extra fan speed.

For "standard" factory S2 RX-8's having fans come on early can contribute to over cooling.
