Thumbs up Review: Paint chip repair using Dr. ColorChip on Black RX-8

My driver's side door was recently struck by a rock thrown up by some SUV. It made two chips in the paint right beside each other about 8 inches below the door handle. They were down to the gray primer and were each about the size of the 0 on a computer keyboard. I could see them from about 15 feet away and they stared at me every time I approached my car and were visible from all angles.

I decided to try the Dr. ColorChip system to repair these two chips and in short, I am very pleased. Unfortunately I was in too much of a hurry to get started working and didn't take a "before" pic but I believe I explained the damage in sufficient detail to get at least an idea of the "before" condition.

This picture shows the door panel after the repair. I honestly couldn't find the repaired chips on this picture but they are about 8 inches directly below the door handle.

This is another angle and I circled the two repaired chips. They are on either side of the power outlet in the reflection on the paint.

And finally, here are the repaired chips with a pencil eraser for size reference.

The Dr. ColorChip system is super easy to use. You just brush some paint on the chipped spot (they include several little brushes) and then smear it kind of flat with your thumb (they even include a glove for this). You let it sit for a couple minutes or up to like an hour or two I think. Then you go over it with their solution stuff on a rag (also included) which removes the excess touch-up paint but doesn't hurt your clear coat. You then give it a quick polish with a microfiber towel (also included in the kit I got) and you are done.

I did the two chips in the picture as well as a few smaller ones on the driver's side fender and also a few on the hood. For the ones on the door in the pictures I came back and did a second coat to try and bring them up to the level of the surrounding paint. They are still a little low so I may do another coat or two to get them perfectly flush.

As they are now I have a hard time seeing them without crouching down and being like a foot from the door.

I am very pleased with the results. My only complaint is I can see this stuff being habit forming. After doing the chips on my door and fender I found myself inspecting other panels looking for chips to repair.

The have Phantom Blue on their site. You just put in your year, make, and model and they have color choices.
My brother recently used some on his red 2000 Honda Prelude and said it looked great (haven't seen it in person yet). I know darker colors are supposed to be easier for them to match.

If you try this let me know. My hood has way to many rock chips. I am going to need to do something before winter.
