For the following wheel widths, what is the range of offsets that you can use?

i.e. wheel / tire right at the outside of the fenderwell to wheel / tire just having enough clearance on the inside

8"
8.5"
9"
9.5"

I hope educated members could posts answers in the from of +x minimum offset to +y maximum offset.

How about 18x9.75 +20 off set would it fit a rx8 ? Or in I use 15mm or 20mm spaceer?

 

you can definitely go lower than what tirerack says you can. planning on 18x9 +20 front and 18x10 +30 rear for my car. 225/35-18 front and 255/35-18 rear. Will also end up having to roll fenders for sure and maybe do a little bit of a pull on the fenders as I'm not going to be running excessive camber.

18x8.5 +35, 235 x40. no spacers.... perfectly flush!!

 

Fitment is the same as series 1 as far as I know. Tirerack is crazily conservative on sizes.

for a reason most people don't really think about. Overall tire diameter in comparison to stock. the 225/35-18 will be shorter than factory, yes, but the 255/35/18 is only 0.18 inches shorter than the factory tire on my R3. This should help keep the ECU from possibly freaking out. the lower profile will also allow me to go as low as possible (no, it will not be stupid low) while still not having to really modify anything other than rolling the fenders.

 

Yeah, no. A 225/35-18 of one brand can be a different size than a 225/35-18 of another brand. The actual sizes (section width, etc.) can vary quite a bit. I have a table somewhere detailing the actual specs between different brands, sizes, etc.

Oh, and this thread is stupid, there is a sticky addressing all this. Do your own research and make your own decisions.

 

you don't say??? i guess going through the manufacturer's specs on the tires I'm comparing to find the differences in heights and what not isn't enough to make a judgement as to whether or not the tire heights are close...

 

Those are overly short. 265/35 and 245/35 would be better IMO.

 

why am I getting advice? i wasn't asking lol someone else was and i chimed in with what my plan is...

anyways...i originally looked a 265's. however, when the brand I'm going with doesn't offer the 265 in a profile for a 17" wheel to match the factory height tire, i stepped down a little bit instead of getting a taller tire.

I've done the research on the tire sizes I was looking at, and, like i said, was going to use a 265. however, the tires i was looking at do not offer a 265 without going to a 40 aspect ratio. which, is TALLER than factory. the 255/35 is 0.18" shorter than factory and is the closest to factory height tire I can run with that exact tire on the size wheel I am using. thank you

These are the wheel I am looking at getting. 19x8.5 front, 19x9.5 rear. Not sure of the offsets yet but im after some dish with the only mods I would consider being guards rolled and some BC Coilovers..

 

a lot of the choosing offset is also going to depend on if you're willing to stretch the tires a bit. if you want tires that fit perfectly straight up and down with the wheel then you'll end up having to go with a higher offset than stretching a bit narrower tire on to the same wheel. more plays into that just diameter, width, and offset. Tires will play as a factor as well

 

Understood. I don't mind a light stretch however the "Hellaflush" stretched look just is out of the question. I think an inch smaller than the rim width would be fine.

The research I have done indicates a +35 for the 19x9.5" rears would work with minor guard rolling, and for the front 19x8.5 a +30 should be possible.

 

Meah, just get a good set of 19x9.5 +35 all around. Mount some 255s and call it a day. should not have to roll anything as long as you are not slammed.

When you start getting into the different offsets front and rear it means you can no longer rotate tires properly and can end up being a pain. When you start getting into high end tires and replace just the front or rear set things will never be the same.

Even with the stickys you can't tell what the maximum ranges are per wheel size. You can maybe get a rough estimate.

Nor was the reply helpful enough to indicate which sticky in which subforum has this information. None of the three stickys in this forum have it that's for sure.

The order should be:
1. Be helpful
2. Make a(n) (optional) snide remark for humor

NOT:
1. Give useless generic advice such as "This is stupid, there's a sticky."
2. Be an ***

For example, there's a spreadsheet on 7club which indicates what the maximum and minimum offsets you can use per wheel size for the FD, that was stickied and people would always refer to that sticky in the wheel-specific subforum. That's an example of helpful advice.

Your ride height matters, the tire width matters, the actual tire width matters, tire height matters, offset matters, width matters, fender mods matter, etc. does the rx7 thing have like 20 numbers for each width/offset to account for everything? Genuinely curious

 

No on ride height, actual tire width or fender mods (assumes stock fenders, like most people have), but it's damn better than what we have here which is......some stickys somewhere and nothing concrete which is centralized.

Take a look, it's not bad as a general rule of thumb or to give you an idea of what you're working with.
