Hey guys,

Basically my buddy and I were doing some spirited driving and suddenly I hear and feel this annoying grind when going into 4th gear. This only happens in high RPMs that exceed 7k or so.

It's pretty annoying and it doesn't seem like it wants to go away any time soon. I was thinking that changing the transmission fluid to something different could help; I'll try but I doubt it will do anything. My car is an '07 that has approx. 17,500 miles on it.

My question to you all: I understand that the 8 has a 5yr / 60k mile warranty on the transmission. Would this type of grinding be covered by this warranty? Could this grind lead to a new, free transmission for my 8?

depends on why its grinding. Is the clutch fully diengaging? Does you clutch need to be adjusted? Did you damage the synchros in the transmission?

More information would help. Did you slam the gears? Did you miss a shift badly? Did it just start on its own with smooth shifting? Did you burn the clutch down? We really need more information.

 

It should be covered under the warranty. Call the Mazda dealership and tell them the problem. Just make sure you don't have modifications under the hood. Dealers are ******** about those kind of stuffs. Good luck.

 

Change ur tranny oil with Redline first if that doesnt help take it to the dealer warranty

 

If it is synchro related changing the oil might give you enough trouble free time to save some spare money for when your transmission fails completely.

 

I've had this problem for a while too and changing to redline mt90 helped it a lot, but it still grinds if I shift above 7500rpm. The question is, what would you even tell the dealer?

They'll be pissy if you tell them you shift that high, won't they? So they won't be able to replicate the problem cause they'll tell you to shift at 4k rpm or someshit. Right? I've been wondering myself.

 

I haven't missed a shift in a long while and I haven't been burning the clutch up. I would assume the clutch fully disengages otherwise wouldn't it affect all gears rather than 4th? I'm not sure.

I just had a new clutch put in less than 3,000 miles ago so I feel like the clutch doesn't need to be adjusted but again I wouldn't know whether it does or doesn't.

I don't think so. I guess it depends on the dealer. I know that they guy over at my Mazda dealership isn't a moron and knows that this car needs to be driven at 7k+ rpms so I can't imagine him being an ******* about this.

 

I may have to go in and ask them. I'm close to 60k :|
