Engine failure - something broken off in engine?

Hi,
Wondering if any RX8 experts here can help.
On my second RX8 and fantastic experience until now...

Just hoping dont need an engine rebuild..

Engine wont start at all.. Pulled away from house and lost power immediately.

Engine turns over but wont start...

No local Mazda available this week.. so took to local garage.

They said took 3 plugs out and they can feel something broken off into the engine... then can grab with some pliers but cannot pull out....?

They can start the engine by hand but then stops..

Done a compression test... low compression... but dont think they did a propert mazda compression test...

So my question is - how likely is this... could it be a broken rotor tip... car is 54 place with 64k miles - no issues at all upto now...Mazda service guy said never had broken rotor...

If it is a broken rotor tip - can I just buy new rotor tips? What else could be broken off?

So investigating full engine rebuild kits ..

Mazda reckon £5k for new engine.... car only worth that!

Any help greatly appreciated !!

I'm no expert at all on this, but I'm guessing you blew an apex seal..

It looks like you have lost a seal or had some other kind of seal failure.
Where in the UK are you located? I might point you in the right direction

many thanks for the replies...

if its seals... how big a job is that to replace and I presume it will still need the engine taking out to get whatever has broken off?

I'm in west london near heathrow so can tow car near to london if required.

Not worth me paying £5k for new engine as can by another RX8 for much less than that.... unless get an engine rebuild kit but then no guarentee that whateven has broken off hasnt damaged cyclinders/bores etc?

You should contact pettitracing.co.uk, hayward or the likes then.
The engine needs to be torn apart, inspected and evaluated. Damaged seals can do a real mess...It may be cheaper to buy a remanufactured engine from states altogether.

Yeah if it damaged the cylinders you may be screwed. Hopefully it's just one cylinder and not all 4.
