Suggestions for "New Members"

Would there be any way to get these threads sent to the in-box of every person who signs up for an account? At the very least, the New and Potential Owners one should be made a sticky in EVERY forum/ sub-forum. Just a suggestion

I feel as if the problem isnt that people dont see the stickies, its that they dont want to read them.. lol great idea but can't see it changing anything.

Before 8club, i'd never been on a forum before. I didn't know what the stickies meant, and I couldn't find the way to my own page!
But, I think that if I saw something in big bold letters saying "New and Potential Owners Start Here" I would have read it!
Luckily, I just kept my mouth shut and continued reading until I learned the ways on my own
Or, maybe a set up like 7club? Must have certain post count to start threads, a forum for new members, etc?

That's a very common setting. I'm surprised it's not used here. Hell, I wasn't even allowed to reply to a thread in the regional forum on 7club without a post count of 3 (which was kinda weird).

New member must pass a 10 question test. All the answers must be found by using the search function.

^...................oh, that's the best idea yet Invasion!
We should secretly come up with the six questions they have to find the answers to!

What's a matter Soldier.....gettin tired? Welcome to hell!
Why do you think I have those links + one more saved in a text file and just cut and paste them in!

Well, I think the post limit for creating new threads is justified, but anything else would just be a pain. I created an account on rx7club to reply in one of the local threads about a meet I want to go to, but it wouldn't let me unless I had more than X posts. I don't really like that. But for new threads, hell yes!

just make those threads part of the registration process, where you read them then answer one question and click accept and proceed to the activation link

Actually the 7club has a smart set up. The new user section has 4 "read these and post that you have" threads that give you rules, tips, etc and up your post count by posting that they've been read. There is no check that you actually read them, but you'll get found out pretty quickly if you haven't read them. I personally read everything they asked me to before posting. Didn't bother me to do so one bit.

Damn good idea Soldier... It would definitely be a good idea for new member to be given some type of training/advice before being completely cut loose.

^ . Seriously, something should be done. At least make noobs read something and verify that they read it somehow before they can log in for the first time.

An intro quiz, with shifting questions, would cut down on spammers quit a bit too.

Nah, threads like yours get started every day. That is the problem. We are all here to help but answering the same questions daily just because people are too lazy to search just gets old. Not to mention the questions that get asked that cannot be answered like "what is the best exhaust for my car?", etc.

I have a better idea. Why dont you guys delete some of the old threads that aren't worth a sh-t anyway? That way, when a "noob" tries to search he doesn't come across a week worth of reading. That's why you guys keep getting the same questions.
Maybe re-vamp the search feature so you get better hits when you are searching for something specific. Maybe it isn't the newbies fault??
If you make someone who doesn't know jack about the 8 wait until they have enough posts won't that just create MORE worthless posts?????
