Hi all! I just purchased an '05 Brilliant Black RX-8 Touring 6-speed about a month ago and I love it! I've been lurking here as a guest since I got it but I decided to register today. I'll put some pics up when I get home from work tonight. Glad to be here!

I live in Houston now after moving here from NY and I'm glad I didn't have one up there as my Alero is completely rusted out on the bottom from 5 winters up there. I got the carfax with it. It only had one owner and everything was good on it, except for failing emissions one day, which it passed later that day. I did purchase an extended warranty with it from my bank, which I later got my money back for after finding out it didn't cover anything pre-existing.

When I bought the car I brought it to a Mazda dealership (bought it from a Hyundai). I replaced the motor mounts and fixed an oil pan gasket seap there, which I was re-embursed half of from Hyundai. I also replaced the transmission and clutch out of pocket because after bringing it to Jeff Haas Mazda for a thump sound (mostly in first) they said that the synchros were bad in 1st and possibly other gears. I said F-it and went for a new tranny and clutch and brought it back later because it was still doing it. Apparently he came to the conclusion the synchros were bad because of the car wanting to inch forward in first when going into gear. He claims the thumps is normal and put some RP in the transmission but I really doubt it's supposed to do that. It can't be the transmission since it's brand new so I'm thinking he didn't do something with the clutch right. It feels like it's not engaging properly and is causing the thump noise.

Since I'm still at work I have to post these from my phone so it might not work. These pics aren't the best so I'll try to get some better ones taken tomorrow especially if I go to the Houston import meet at bear creek park. Thanks for the welcome guys the rotary smoothness is definitely an addiction

I agree with you on that one. It was the first one I looked at and I saw it had the body trim, sunroof, 6 speed MT, plus it was black. I didn't need to look at any other car because I was already sold at that point ^^

Well normally that would be true but I put a bunch of NoS stickers on mine so obviously mine is way faster!

I'm actually going to attempt to cover the car with NoS stickers so you can't actually see what it looks like. Maybe I'll throw in a few stickers of a bolt on turbo as well... I plan on breaking the sound barrier >=D

At first I hated it because I couldn't walk outside during summer months without breaking a sweat after 5 minutes. After getting used to it I have to say the only downsides are kind of crappy roads, traffic, and crime rate in apartment complexes (and the rest of Houston of course) unless you're willing to pay 900+ a month for an apartment in one of the nicer areas around here (like the Galleria).

On the plus side, rent (for the kinda ghetto apartments) is pretty cheap, cost of living is WAY less than up north, housing prices are super cheap, and the job market is actually pretty good around here for the most part. All in all I'd say if you can find a good area to live and the job is worth it then go for it. There's plenty to do out here and the weather is nice once you get used to it (humidity and sometimes lots of rain/hurricane wind). Hope that helped ^^

No prob man. I lived in New York for 19 years (I'm 20 now) so it was a pretty big change when I moved down here right before summer. >.<

You really can't beat housing down here though. An 80k house would probably go for 140k in New York it's crazy O_O
